The Big Feastival 2014 is officially open! - Kingham
Alex James has opened the gates to his farm once again this year for the The Big Feastival, the UK's top music, food and family festival that runs until this Sunday.

This years line up of music includes Fat Boy Slim, Jamie Cullum, De La Soul, Kelis and many more plus it wouldn't be the FEASTival without some of the worlds top chefs including Jamie Oliver, Gennaro Contaldo, Levi Roots showing us their culinary skills!
Making its debut, The Big Feastival is thrilled to present the Udder Stage, showcasing the best in new music each day with acts set to perform including Kimberley Anne, Lucinda Belle, Robbie Boyd and Duke to name a few. Then, as the sun sets the Udder Stage party gets going. On Friday it’s the ultimate indie disco, The Dodgy Club. On Saturday evening it’s the UK’s original live karaoke band, Rockaoke and bringing the Udder Stage to a close on Sunday will be The Big Feastival Barn Dance with the amazing Monster Ceilidh Band!
The Big Feastival Bandstand is also returning to the event with its most entertaining line-up to date. Every morning, enjoy Voga courtesy of Little Miracles Drinks. There will be live performances from acts including Cardboard Carousel, Jasmin Hill, Hannah Grace, Charlie Hole, Scott Verrill, Polka Dot Dolls and Anne Marie Quinn. On Friday, Club de Fromage will be taking festivalgoers for a riotous journey back through pop and rock history. DJ BBQ will be hitting the decks with a DJ set on Saturday, followed by the all new Dance Floor Roulette where the crowd gamble with the DJ's record bag to define what music comes next! Finishing up on the Bandstand, guests will be in for a treat on Sunday with Four Weddings and a Disco’s Bruce Dunny, Australia's top wedding DJ who will be marrying off a couple in between throwing down huge tracks.
It wouldn’t be The Big Feastival without the hottest chefs providing their top tips in live demos on the AEG Big Kitchen. Chefs on stage will include Jamie Oliver, Gennaro Contaldo, Monica Galetti, Nathan Outlaw, Gizzie Erskine, Ashley Palmer-Watts and many more. Many of these chefs will also be taking part in this year’s Table Sessions, aseries of roundtable Q&A debates so come with your questioned prepared! For the full chef programme, check the website.
AEG, in partnership with the100% organic cookery school and farm Daylesford, will also be hosting Induction and Steam oven cookery classes showcasing healthy and convenient family suppers. At the AEG Family Kitchen, families can take part in AEG’s family food-pairing cookery classes for parents and children (8 years old and over) or, for parents with younger children, get creative with raw food sessions using seasonal fruit and vegetables.
In addition to the stellar programme of chefs, the ever-popular Street Food Alley will make a welcome return to the festival with the hottest line up of British street food traders to date. Those on hand include The Bowler, Anna Mae’s, Crêpe Lucette, Dosa Deli, Big Apple Hot Dogs, Dorshi,The Cooking Cooks, What the Dickens!, Yu Kyu and Margo & Rita.
The festival will also have a huge selection of other foodie offerings and stalls such as Pieminister, Soul Food, The Duck Truck and the local producers markets. If that isn’t enough, Jamie’s restaurant teams are also back for 2014 with dishes from Barbecoa, Jamie’s Italian, Jamie Oliver’s Fabulous Feasts and Union Jacks.
Festivalgoers looking to satisfy their cheese cravings can head over to the Alex James Presents Cheese Hub. In addition to being able to sample or buy the entire range of award-winning artisan cheeses there is a full programme of cheese & beer and cheese & wine pairings, cocktail making classes at the bar and DJ sets from Alex and Sarah HB.
Not leaving out a tipple, The Big Feastival welcomes back Birra Moretti as the official beer partner once again and this year they have added the Moretti Food Experience. Alongside their bar they are joined by London based Arancina, who will be serving arancini, which are a great accompaniment to great beer.
With one of the best views of the main stage, the Wyld Wood Organic Cider tepee will also be enticing festivalgoers by serving deliciously refreshing sparkling cider delivered straight from the Westons Cider Mill in Herefordshire.
Another great new addition to the event for 2014 is The Big Feastival Supper Club. A pop-up banquet taking place on Friday 29 August, foodie fans will enjoy four courses created by some of the top chefs in the Supper Club world including; Uyen Luu, James Ramsden and Jackson & Levine AKA Laura Jackson and Alice Levine. Kim Somauroo and Laura Field, regular hosts of Supper Clubs at Jamie’s Fifteen will provide Canapés. Tickets for The Big Feastival Supper Club sold out in just 36 hours!
The Big Feastival wouldn’t be the same without a jam-packed programme of children’s and family entertainment. CBeebies superstar Justin Fletcher will be delighting little ones and parents alike with a special performance on Saturday 30 August. Making his debut at the event, fellow CBeebies presenter Ben Faulks a.k.a Mr Bloom will be appearing on Sunday 31 August. The brilliant Adam Henson’s Cotswold Farm Park will also be giving kids the chance to meet some of their favourite furry and feathered friends all weekend.
This year’s Little Dudes’ Den will host LEGO presents The Imagination Factory, giving fans young and old the chance to enter into a magical LEGO world and let their imaginations run wild. A first for The Big Feastival, Change4Life and Disney will be inviting everyone to get active with their ’10 Minute Shake Up’ Roadshow. Families can try their hand at different challenges inspired by their favourite Disney and Disney Pixar stories.
The event is also delighted to have the award-winning Roald Dahl Museum at Big Feastival. Legendary kids’ entertainers Sharky & George also set to cause organised chaos in the Big Top tent with a daily dose of ‘Family Olympics’ and their much-loved water bomb catapult. Over in The Workshop, highlights will include The British Film Institute with its stop motion animation workshops and Phoenix Comics teaching you how to make your very own comic strip.
Award-winning Bubbles Inc with nine times world record holder Samsam the Bubbleman will be making a welcome return with their unique bubbleology to entertain the crowds. Good Energy, the festival’s Official Energy Partner, invites you to see how much energy you can generate on their Human Hamster Wheel. Or take a different kind of spin on one of the Vintage Funfair rides.
Renault has this year joined the Big Feastival family coming on board as the Official Car Partner of the festival. They will be bringing their Renault Family Zone aimed at keeping the entire family entertained with a climbing wall for the adrenalin junkies and sand pit for people to show off their sand castle building skills.
An exciting first for The Big Feastival 2014 is ThePotato Patch. Earlier in the year, Alex James and local school kids, led by The Royal Agricultural University, planted rows of potatoes that have spent the summer growing, ready to be plucked from the ground during the event and cooked by visitors under the expert guidance of Jamie’s Kitchen Garden Project team.
